Chocolate City Signs First Female Artiste

The multi award winning record label, Chocolate City, is home to some of the music industry’s top house hold names, such as M.I, Jesse Jagz, Iceprince, and Brymo. With the rapid growth of the label and increasing success of artist management, Chocolate City has proven to be a hub of talent exploitation, and manifestation. Chocolate City, known for setting trends, decided to bide their time, and look out for the girl that possessed qualities of a Choc BOI (Bold, Original, Innovative). In came a young lady, full of energy and enthusiasm who welcomed the opportunity of being featured along-side, award winning Africa’s rapper numero uno, M.I on his upcoming mixtape “Deux Illegaux de Musique – Illegal Music 2”. After label heads, Audu Maikori, and Paul Okeugo heard her lyrical prowess on the song “No-tis” (a cover of Jay Z and Kanye West’s Otis), they decided to put her through the CC boot camp. Without further a-do, ladies and gentlemen, Chocolate City presents to the world, its first signed female artist, PRYSE! (Pronounced Prize). When asked what it meant to be the first female signed to Chocolate City, Pryse had this to say “I thank God I’ve come this far, and I’m just happy it finally happened, and I’m ready to put in the work, so let’s go. I’m ready to be a BOI (Bold/Original/Innovative).”

The First Ever DJ Academy

Wazobia FM's Dj Smart Don has decided to start up a disc jockeying academy in Port Harcourt.
According to the ever friendly Dj, he says the Academy would be responsible for churning out the disc jockeys of the future and improving those already in the line of work.
"I discovered that lots of people out there who have got potential to become great Djs have no one to actually school them on how to bring their interest and inherent talent to the fore. This academy will be in the interest of such people" says Smart Don.
He continues, "Over 95% of our Djs lack certification and I believe this has to change because to people like me, this is a profession and not a hobby".

The academy which resumes officially in February will see its students tutored by award winning Djs like Dj Neptune, Smart Don himself and a host of others. Classes we are told would be a 100% practical to ensure students fully grasp all the rudiments.
There would be morning, afternoon and evening classes to suit the needs of applicants and there would be accommodation for interested applicants.
Dj Smart Don says he is charting a new course in the history of Disc Jockeying in the country and would love to hear Dj's mentioned in the same breath as other qualified professionals.

No hype! But, this is the best Nigerian Hiphop joint I have heard this new year!
Following the removal of fuel subsidy on January 1st, there have been mass protests, rallies and strikes nationwide!
A few rappers have risen to the situation and used the power of Hiphop to speak their voices.

Teckzilla n The Holstar-ExtraOrdinaires

"THE EXTRAORDINAIRE'S" is a collaboration album between Zambia based emcee The Holstar (Slam Dunk Records) and Canada based producer Teck-Zilla (Str8 Buttah Productions).
A 10 track album made up of gritty, soulful beats and insightful topics. A much needed departure from today's flash in a pan, pop-hook-laden rap songs we are all used to.
From the self questioning "Blackman Struggling" (Ft. Mr. Rae of Str8 Buttah); nostalgia inducing "Past Present and Future" to the rapid fire ratatat found on "Skills" Ft. Southern African MC Zubz.
'The Extraordinaires' is a prime example of hip-hop in its purest form, thought provoking and head bobbing.

Flavour To Lead Anti-Subsidy Removal Protest In Enugu

Enugu is poised to be the first south-eastern state to protest the removal of fuel subsidies. They join the likes of Kano, Abuja, Lagos, Zamfara, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Sokoto and so many other states who are making their displeasure knownat the January 1st removal of fuel subsidies. Indigenous stars like Flavour, Nigga Raw, Waga G, DesperateChics, ChairmanGaza, Slow Dogg, Wizboy and so many others are poised to lead the people of the Coal city in what is billed as a peaceful march. Flavour, who completed the shooting of his new music video in Enugu, entitled 'Subsidy' - a song which decries the subsidy removal- is set to join the peaceful march. One of the organisers of the #OccupyEnugu protests, Lorenzo Menakaya explained that the showdown was billed for 9th January- the same day that has been billed for a national strike by the NLC. In his words; “It’s important that we register our displeasure at the sudden removal of subsidies. Complaining on Twitter or Facebook is not enough. So we are urging peaceful Enugu citizens to come out to Okpara Square on the 9 th by 8 am. There is strength in numbers and it’s encouraging to see our hip-hop stars showing interest…It’s going to be peaceful- so we hope that the police understand that we are protesting with only cardboard sheets and markers- not guns…” (Culled from CRUISE NIGERIA.)
